The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission has instructed the Controller and Accountant General to withhold the July salaries of Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) members.
The press release dated July 22 announced that college principals must not approve July salaries for teaching staff.
This decision responds to CETAG’s unlawful strike, which began in June 2024. As a result, the Controller and Accountant General will suspend July salaries for all teaching staff, except college principals.
The decision also underscores the government’s delay in enforcing the National Labour Commission’s (NLC) arbitral award orders and the agreed-upon service conditions.
CETAG is demanding an additional month’s salary for 2022 duties and the application of agreed allowance rates for public universities to its members.
This measure will affect teaching staff across all colleges of education.
