Former Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam has cast doubt on the practicality of the Mahama government’s proposed 24-hour economy policy, arguing that the 2025 budget lacks a concrete implementation plan.
In an interview, Dr Amin Adam emphasized that although the budget mentions the initiative, it fails to outline a detailed strategy or allocate funds for its execution.
“You take the budget and look at it; there were only references to the 24-hour economy. There is no program for its implementation. And once there’s no program, it means there’s no allocation of funds towards it,” he stated.
Further, he also challenges the Finance Minister’s assurance that the initiative would be launch later in 2025, insisting that without budgetary support, the plan remains unfeasible.
“The finance minister said they would launch it later this year, but if there’s no allocation, how do you even implement it? Are you going to launch and then wait until 2026 to make allocations for actual implementation? This is deceptive as far as job creation is concerned,” he argued.
The 24-hour economy policy, a key campaign promise, aims to create jobs and boost productivity across all sectors.
