The minister-designate for local government, chieftaincy, and religious affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim has pledged to prioritise the continuation and successful execution of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) if Parliament approves him.
During his appearance before the Parliamentary Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 21, he emphasised his commitment to preventing the waste of significant investments in DRIP.
Thus, stressed the need to maximise the use of resources and machinery already acquired for the project.
“If confirmed, we will work together to ensure the DRIP initiative succeeds. They bought the machines to improve untarred district roads and invested substantial funds, so it would be wasteful to let such an investment go unused.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo launched DRIP to enhance road networks across districts in Ghana, aiming to improve accessibility and foster economic growth.
Thus, the program targets poor road infrastructure in many parts of Ghana, focusing on upgrading unpaved district roads that are essential for transporting goods and people, especially in rural and peri-urban areas.
However, DRIP has faced challenges such as delays and concerns about maintenance and resource allocation.
