On Saturday, May 6, 2023, legendary Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage made history by becoming the first and only musician from Africa to perform at the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
Numerous foreign leaders, royals, and diplomats attended the Coronation at Westminster Abbey.
One of the around a dozen artists listed for the show was Tiwa. When she walked on stage wearing a green gown to perform “Keys to the Kingdom,” the announcer referred to her as “the Queen of Afro beats.”
When a drummer entered the stage during the longer than three-minute performance, Tiwa performed Yoruba-inspired dancing moves to thunderous acclaim.
Members of the royal family applauded her performance as it came to a close.
