Ruth Kadiri, a Nigerian filmmaker and producer, has threatened to sue Ghanaian television stations for airing her films without her permission or authorization.
In a clip that went viral, the actress remarked that, while she loves Ghana and appreciates the support, she is disappointed to see her intellectual property rights violated.
Ruth Kadiri saw this tendency several times and considered watermarking her work as a result, but opted against it.
She emphasized that making films was costly and time-consuming, and that her creative efforts could not be compromised.
The Nigerian filmmaker added that she would appreciate it if television stations stopped doing this or face the repercussions.
Ruth Kadiri threatened to have her attorneys contact the next TV station to violate her copyrights.
“I love the country as a whole, but I am very disappointed that a major Ghanaian TV station would go on my platform, rip my content apart, and show it on TV like they have the right to do that,” the speaker said.
There aren’t even just one, two, or three of it. I feel like adding a watermark will make my stuff look tacky, thus I don’t want to do it. Because my attorneys will contact you the next time, this is the first and final warning.
“I beg you, let’s not start dragging ourselves through the mud. I expect so much from you because you know how expensive it is to create content and instead of you to buy this content, you would rather rip it and show it on national TV,” she said.
