The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has signaled that the release of the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination results could face delays if the government fails to pay the outstanding funds promptly.
Head of public affairs at WAEC, John K. Kapi, addressed the issue on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning, highlighting the potential ramifications of delayed government payments.
He warned that such delays could significantly disrupt the timely release of exam results, thereby affecting students, educational institutions, and the broader academic calendar.
As the examinations are still ongoing, there are multiple steps that must be completed before the marking and processing of results can begin.
Despite this, Mr. Kapi remains hopeful that the necessary funds will be received before the marking starts.
Mr Kapi mentioned that WAEC has currently received between 60 and 65 percent of the required funds, and plans are in place for the government to release the remainder to complete the process on schedule.
These concerns have emerged amidst reports of the government’s slow disbursement of funds to WAEC for the commencement of the examination.
