Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, has personally donated GHC160,000 to the victims of the Akosombo Dam spill.
During his visit to some affected communities in the Volta Region on Wednesday, October 17, 2023, Dr. Bawumia made a donation to support the victims. Several communities in eight Districts, mostly in the Volta Region, as well as the Eastern and Greater Accra Regions, have been displaced due to the Dam spillage.
The government has responded to the crisis thus far by removing affected individuals to 20 holding centers and providing emergency assistance supplies through the National Crisis Management Organization (NADMO) and the Inter-Ministerial Committee, which was established by President Akufo-Addo to oversee the situation.
It was clarified that Dr. Bawumia’s private donation is intended to supplement the assistance the government has already provided to the victims.
The Vice President visited a number of communities, including Sogakope and Sokpoe in the South Tongu District and New Bakpa in the Central Tongu District.
Along with the Vice President were Ambrose Dery, the Interior Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister of Information, Archibald Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, and representatives from NADMO and the VRA.
