The 2024 Ghana Women Awards honoured veteran actress Maame Dokono at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
Brein Consult organised the event to recognise outstanding Ghanaian women across various fields, inspiring others to strive for greatness.
In her acceptance speech, Maame Dokono expressed her gratitude and reflected on her legacy. “I believe I’ve touched the life of every Ghanaian. I want to thank everyone—I am a living legend. Thank you very much,” she said joyfully.
Throughout her five-decade career, Maame Dokono captivated audiences with her exceptional acting in both movies and dramas. She became a household name through her roles in the popular television series *Akan Drama* and as the lead in the *Obra* Drama Group. The iconic mother of six starred in over 50 films.
Her storytelling program *By the Fireside* charmed audiences, particularly younger viewers. Beyond acting, she hosted impactful radio and television talk shows that addressed important social and human rights issues. She also released three music albums.
Driven by her compassion for the vulnerable, Maame Dokono founded the Peace and Love Orphanage to care for orphans and underprivileged children in Ghana.
