Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie recently opened up about his approach to using songs as a medium to respond to various matters. In a recent interview, he admitted that while he doesn’t shy away from addressing certain issues through his music, there are certain topics he prefers not to engage with, as they may lead him to lose his composure.
The renowned rapper emphasized the importance of carefully choosing his words, especially when it involves personal matters between individuals. While he has used songs to address certain issues in the past, he dislikes discussing certain topics publicly, as they may evoke strong emotions.
Sarkodie reflected on one particular instance when he released a Diss Track in response to Yvonne Nelson’s memoir, “Try Me.” He confessed that he was not necessarily proud of releasing the track, indicating that there might have been other ways to handle the situation. He explained that the track was a momentary expression of his truth and emotions at that time, but he acknowledged that a more productive conversation could have taken place between the two parties involved.
“I am not going to sit here and say I am super proud of it, the thing is just in a moment how I felt whether be my truth there should have been a way you could have said it that’s why I don’t like to speak about it because this is a conversation between two people,” Sarkodie pointed out.
Despite the reservations he may have had about certain responses, Sarkodie expressed that using music as an outlet allowed him to share his side of the story. Music has been a powerful tool for him to express himself and connect with his audience, and in some instances, it became the medium through which he chose to address certain issues.
The rapper, who is also known by his stage name “Happy Day,” highlighted the importance of maintaining composure and restraint when dealing with sensitive topics. While he may be tempted to react impulsively, he understands that speaking thoughtfully and engaging in constructive dialogue is essential in resolving issues effectively.
