“Trade Fair 20,000-Seater Project Will Transform Arts”-Bawumia

Written by Sarah Boye

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has emphasised the transformative potential of the ongoing construction of the ultra-modern, 20,000-seater Ghana Trade Fair Convention Centre for the country’s tourism and creative arts sectors.

After inspecting the site, Dr. Bawumia pointed out that Ghana’s largest current entertainment venue, which holds just 3,000 people, is inadequate to support the growth of the creative arts. He explained that smaller venues force artists to raise ticket prices to cover costs, reducing demand and limiting revenue opportunities.

“With the largest auditorium in Ghana accommodating less than 3,000 people, artists often have to charge higher prices to break even. This drives up show costs, decreases demand, and restricts the industry’s revenue potential,” he said.

Additionally, Dr Bawumia expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress and commended the contractors for their dedication to completing it within eight months.

Scheduled for completion in September next year, the Convention Centre will become Ghana’s premier venue for entertainment, conferences, exhibitions, and conventions, further cementing the country’s reputation as a prime destination for major events.
