Nigerian artist Shallipopi has revealed that prominent musicians ignored his messages before he rose to fame.
In an interview, he explained that his attempts to connect with his favourite celebrities often went unanswered, a struggle he believes many upcoming artists experience. Despite this, Shallipopi said he never took it personally, understanding that these artists were likely busy and unaware of him at the time.
“They don’t know you,” he stated. “It’s not personal—they have their own lives and work. If you’re unknown, it’s natural they won’t respond. But once you succeed, that’s when people start reaching out to you.”
Further, he highlighted singer Rema as an example, describing how their collaboration on *Benin Boys* only materialised after his music gained attention.
“I initially messaged Rema as an upcoming artist while he was already established,” Shallipopi shared. “When my music started gaining traction, Rema noticed and encouraged me, and we eventually met in the studio to create *Benin Boys*.”
Additionally, Shallipopi urged aspiring artists to remain persistent, emphasising that recognition comes with consistency and success.
