Thousands of protesters took to the streets on Tuesday, October 8, calling for urgent action on the stalled anti-gay bill.
Organized by supporters of the Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, the demonstration aimed to pressure the government to approve the legislation, which has been in limbo since its passage by Parliament on February 28.
Protesters urged the president to sign the bill without further delay, expressing frustration over the prolonged inaction.
The bill’s primary advocate and Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, stressed in a recent interview that the Chief Justice has the power to expedite the process.
“The Chief Justice has the authority to enforce deadlines, requiring parties involved to file necessary documents, including a statement of claim, within 14 days,”If delays continue for a year and the Chief Justice deems it acceptable, then the parties will proceed at their own pace.”
