According to a new report released by The Outcomes International in Ghana and the Centre for Sustainable African Development Initiatives (C-SADI) in the UK, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is expected to win a landslide victory with 80.8% of the vote to represent the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the general elections of 2024.
The study prioritises delegates according to two primary criteria: vision and competence. It employs a quantitative research design and computerised assessed telephone interviewing (CAT) technology to evaluate applicants.
A minimum sample size of 9.248 PSE with a 1 percent margin of error and a 95% confidence level was determined. To improve accuracy, however, 9,300 delegates were interviewed. Multistage probability proportional to size sampling (PPS) with implicit stratification was employed in the study. For this study, fieldwork was conducted from October 10 to October 20, 2023. The majority of the delegates were young men who were married and had little to no formal education.
Additionally, it was discovered that Dr. Bawumia has the most amount of support from the delegates, with 10.4%, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto with 1.1%, and Francis Addai-Nimoh with 0.4% following. However, there is only a narrow window for prospective changes in support because 7.3% of the delegates are still unsure.
The research report goes on to say that Dr. Bawumia’s vision for the party, his capacity to carry out his vision and mandate, and his potential to win the NPP in the general elections of 2024 were among the factors that influenced the delegates’ decision to choose him.
On November 4, 2023, the NPP will host its National Delegates Conference in order to formally select its flagbearer for the next General Elections. Kennedy Agyapong was Dr. Bawumia’s closest rival in the party’s super delegates election, and his success was consistent with the expectations of credible research organisations.
The study also highlights the party’s strong likelihood of ending the eight-year cycle in the event that the administration performs well and the party stays united following the primaries.
Based on this research projection, the NPP stands to gain a great deal from Dr. Bawumia’s victory in the flagbearership contest in the next elections.
