No contender in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primary, according to Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Mavis Hawa Koomson, can better convey the message of the party in the 2024 elections than Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The MP for Awutu Senya East argues that Dr. Bawumia has the advantage of leading the party’s effort to “Break the 8” because he actively collaborated with President Akufo-Addo in government.
She claims that Dr. Bawumia has worked extremely hard in his role as vice president, and his contributions are clear to observe.
In an interview with Citi TV on Tuesday, September 12, Madam Koomson called on all NPP supporters to help him win the election on November 4.
She asserted, “The only person who can “break the 8″ is Dr. Bawumia”. “He has spent the last eight years working for President Akufo-Addo, is aware of our beginnings and current location thus has a tale to share”.
She remarked, “Without Dr. Bawumia, no one can convey the story of the administration, which is why we are all behind him.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, won the Super Delegates Congress of the New Patriotic Party first place.
After ten contenders picked up registration forms for the planned central presidential primary,
The Vice President won the election with 68.15% of the total votes cast, followed by Kennedy Agyapong, the MP for Assin Central, with 14.3% of the total votes cast, after the results of 17 out of the 17 voting places around the nation were tallied.
Former Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and former Trades Minister Alan Kyerematen tied for third place with 10.29% of the votes cast each.
Francis Addai Nimoh and Boakye Agyarko, a former energy minister, each received 0.98 percent of the total votes, resulting in a tie.
Thus, a run-off between the two was planned for Saturday, September 2.
The National Council, however, announced that they would create an electoral college made up of members of the National Council to resolve the tie between Mr. Agyarko and his rival Francis Addai Nimoh.
Boakye Agyarko officially withdrew from the next run-off election since this did not sit well with him.
