The Supreme Court of Ghana has blocked Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to declare the seats of four Members of Parliament (MPs) vacant.
This action comes after former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu filed a motion, citing constitutional provisions that require MPs who change political affiliations or run as independents to vacate their seats. Bagbin, acting on these provisions, declared the four seats vacant, leading to controversy and legal challenges.
The Supreme Court’s stay order prevents any changes to the current composition of Parliament until the case is resolve .
The MPs affected by the ruling are Cynthia Morrison (Agona West), Kwadjo Asante (Suhum), Andrew Amoako Asiamah (Fomena), and Peter Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central). The ruling remains suspended while the court continues its review.
