Ghanaian singer Stonebwoy recently lauded the Nigerian music industry for its remarkable success and dominant presence across Africa and beyond. In an interview on the popular radio show “Sway In The Morning,” Stonebwoy passionately discussed the vibrant and diverse landscape of African music, giving credit to Nigerian artists for their relentless efforts and tenacity.
Stonebwoy acknowledged that Nigeria’s large population undoubtedly played a role in the industry’s success, but he emphasized that the determination, aggression, and hardworking mindset displayed by Nigerian artists were crucial factors behind their prominence. He expressed admiration for their unwavering winning attitude and strong work ethic, which have propelled them to the forefront of the African music scene.
The Ghanaian artist stated, “I don’t want to cause no ciaos, but when you come to the whole of Africa, Nigeria pushes the most. You can find Nigerians being very popular around the African continent in different countries, but you might not find other African artists as popular as Nigerians are in Nigeria.”
While praising Nigeria’s accomplishments, Stonebwoy urged other African countries to learn from their Nigerian counterparts and prioritize their artists. He emphasized the importance of supporting and championing local talents to elevate the music industries of their respective countries.
“I have been calling out all the people to know their artist. If you are Ghanaian, make sure your Ghanaian artist is the ultimate priority. From the blueprint, a Nigerian’s top priority is a Nigerian artist, and that’s the way we can all emulate and keep doing some of the things that they have been doing. Their number is huge; therefore, they have the power, numbers, force, attitude, and business-mindedness, but that does not mean other Africans cannot come out to those venues. So, basically, I think it’s a grind, one day at a time,” he said.
Stonebwoy encouraged fellow musicians to embrace the same dedication and persistence exhibited by their Nigerian counterparts to create a positive impact on the African music industry. He stressed that by supporting and promoting local artists, African countries could strengthen their music scenes and showcase the rich diversity of talents the continent has to offer.
Nigeria’s music industry has experienced exponential growth over the years, with artists like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido gaining international recognition and reaching global audiences. Their success has not only contributed to the growth of the Nigerian music industry but has also elevated the entire African music scene on the world stage.
Stonebwoy’s call for unity and support among African artists is a reminder that the continent’s music industry can thrive when its talents come together, celebrate diversity, and work collaboratively to showcase Africa’s unique cultural expressions to the world. As Ghanaian musicians and artists from other African countries take inspiration from Nigeria’s success story, there is a strong hope that African music will continue to flourish and resonate with audiences worldwide.
