Sefwi-Wiawso MP Rejects Apology Issued by Majority Chief Whip

The Member of Parliament for Sefwi-Wiawso, Dr Kwaku Afriyie, has rejected an apology made on his behalf by Majority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh after Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin expelled him.

In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News, Dr Afriyie denied any wrongdoing and asserted that he had not authorised the apology.

He insisted that his comments were neither insulting nor disrespectful and did not merit an apology.

“He apologised on my behalf? Well, he doesn’t have my permission to do that, and you can put this on record. We’ll take it everywhere. I haven’t done any wrong, so why should I apologise?”

This follows an incident that happened during a discussion about President Akufo-Addo’s nomination of two justices to the Supreme Court.

During the session, Speaker Bagbin urged the House to address issues related to the Supreme Court’s full complement once the Appointments Committee presented its report.

However, Dr Afriyie challenged Bagbin’s comments, arguing that such remarks were outside the Speaker’s jurisdiction.

This disagreement led Bagbin to remove Dr. Afriyie from the House, calling his comments “rude” and “disrespectful.” Annoh-Dompreh then apologised to the Speaker on behalf of the caucus.
