In his resignation letter to the board chairman, Mahama cited personal reasons for his decision. He stated,

“I am formally resigning from my role as Managing Director of ECG, effective two weeks from today. This decision was not easy, but after careful reflection, I believe it is best for me to step away for personal reasons.
I have had the profound honour of serving this esteemed organisation for over two years, and I am grateful for the opportunities I have received. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Board for their unwavering support and to the President for the trust placed in me during my tenure.”

His resignation has come as a surprise to many in Ghana’s energy sector, as he had served only two years since his appointment by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on May 16, 2022.
