Brazilian football legend Ronaldo has officially announced his candidacy for the presidency of the Confederation of Brazilian Football (CBF).
Speaking to Globo Esporte, Ronaldo highlighted the growing disconnect between the national team and the Brazilian public, emphasising that football once served as a unifying force in the country. He aims to replace current CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues to restore the national team’s prestige.
Ronaldo expressed his frustration with Brazil’s recent underperformance, stressing that the nation should dominate international football and live up to expectations in the World Cup, Copa America, and Olympics.
The 48-year-old, who won World Cups in 1994 and 2002, is second on the all-time World Cup scoring list with 15 goals in 19 appearances, behind Germany’s Miroslav Klose. During his illustrious 17-year international career, Ronaldo also claimed two Copa America titles and an Olympic bronze medal.
To pursue his CBF presidency bid, Ronaldo revealed plans to sell his stake in Spanish club Real Valladolid. Although Rodrigues’ term extends until March 2026, the election must take place within the 12 months prior.
