The Electoral Commission (EC) has directed its officials to reject food and gifts from political parties during the December 7 elections.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the EC’s Director of Training, stressed that this measure aims to avoid disruptions that could undermine the electoral process.
Dr Quaicoe assured that the EC will provide officials with allowances to purchase their own meals.
“EC staff must not accept food or anything from political parties. If you get diarrhoea or face any health issues, who will you blame?” he questioned.
He also warned candidates against distributing items to voters waiting in queues.
“The polling station is a security zone. While you may have the right to be there, it is not a place to share items,” he stated.
His remarks followed reports of voters in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency receiving food packs, water, and drinks from incumbent MP Lydia Alhassan during the special voting exercise.
