“Refrain From Vandalising State Properties”-Mahama Urges

Written by Sarah Boye

President John Dramani Mahama has urged National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters to refrain from vandalising or looting state properties.

Speaking at the National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving service at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, on January 10, Mahama called on those involved in illegal activities, including looting and occupying government offices, to immediately stop.

“We must act differently to preserve the trust Ghanaians have in us,” Mahama emphasised. He also reminded his supporters that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) faced public backlash in 2017 for similar actions, which led to their electoral defeat. “We must not repeat their mistakes. I urge you to remain calm and act with order,” he added.

Further, Mahama encouraged NDC supporters to exercise patience and direct their concerns through the ministers he plans to appoint soon.

“Government formation is underway, and a full cabinet will be in place within 14 days. If you have any issues, consult the relevant ministers for resolution,” he stated.

His remarks follow reports of alleged destruction and looting of state properties by individuals believed to be NDC supporters.
