“Refrain From Rebuilding Kantamanto Soon ”-Fire Service Urges

Written by Sarah Boye

The Greater Accra Regional Fire Service has warned victims of the Kantamanto market fire against rushing to rebuild the site.

At a press conference, the Greater Accra Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, ACFO II Rashid Nisawu urged victims to seek fire safety advice before starting reconstruction.

Further, he emphasised that without proper precautions, they risk another fire.

“I’ve spoken with both the victims and the authorities, making it clear that if they rebuild without consulting professionals and another fire breaks out, they’ll be facing the same situation again.”.

Further Nisawu also responded to allegations from some victims who claimed that fire officers intentionally poured petrol on the flames to worsen the blaze. He rejected the accusations, saying,

“Why would anyone pour petrol on a fire? If we had, we would have burnt ourselves. These claims are completely false, and we are holding this press conference to set the record straight.”

His comments follow efforts to rebuild structures destroyed in the devastating fire, which destroyed thousands of shops at the market.
