“Private Sector Is The Solution For ECG’s Growth”-John Jinapor

Written by Sarah Boye

Minister-Designate for Energy, John Jinapor has emphasised that the private sector is the only feasible solution for improving the operations of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Speaking in an interview on Eyewitness News, he underscored the urgency of tackling ECG’s challenges and outlined his plans to establish a transparent framework for reform even before his official swearing-in.

“We don’t intend to wait until after my swearing-in.Our technical team will immediately begin working with consultants from the World Bank and IMF to develop a clear and transparent framework for engaging the private sector. We will focus on billing and collection, set strong KPIs, and conduct a competitive tender process to select the best solutions to enhance ECG’s systems. At this point, involving the private sector is the only viable option.”

Jinapor’s comments follow President John Dramani Mahama’s announcement on January 8 that discussions are underway regarding the privatisation of Ghana’s power distribution.
