Former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo has urged Ghanaians to prioritise fairness, accountability, honesty, equity, and respect for diverse opinions when choosing leaders in the upcoming December 7 elections.
Speaking at a public forum on “Curbing Illicit Financial Flows Through Accountable Governance: The Role of Media” on December 3, Domelevo highlighted the need for principled leadership to drive Ghana’s transformation and address governance challenges. He stressed that only leaders who demonstrate integrity and meritocracy can steer the country toward progress.
“I entreat you all to vote for a leader who acts like a father—fair, just, and rewards based on merit, not party or tribal affiliations. That is the leader Ghana needs,” Domelevo stated.
He also raised concerns about the financing of political parties, questioning the sources of funds used for extravagant campaigns and urging the media to take an active role in exposing corruption.
“I’ve often wondered where political parties get their money from, considering the lavish spending we see on TV. No MP earns more than an auditor-general, yet some can fund projects far beyond their means. This points to undisclosed sources of funding. Transparency is the greatest remedy to corruption, and the media must help in this fight,” he said.
