President Joe Biden has announced his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, effectively ending his campaign against former President Donald Trump.
In a significant shift, Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his preferred candidate for the Democratic nomination.
In a statement issued on Sunday, July 21, Biden wrote,
“While I intended to seek reelection, I believe stepping down is in the best interest of my party and the country. I will focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”
He plans to address the nation later this week to provide more details about his decision.
Additionally, Biden thanked those who supported his reelection efforts and praised Vice President Kamala Harris for her extraordinary partnership.
“I deeply appreciate the faith and trust the American people have placed in me. I believe, as always, that America can achieve anything when we work together. We are the United States of America.”
