President Akufo-Addo Commissions Ultra-Modern Office Complex for the National Vaccine Institute (NVI) and Inaugurates Governing Board to Establish Ghana as Africa’s Vaccine Hub
Accra, Ghana – In a significant stride towards advancing Ghana’s position in the global healthcare landscape, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned a state-of-the-art office complex for the National Vaccine Institute (NVI). The President also inaugurated a distinguished 13-member governing board to spearhead efforts in positioning Ghana as the leading vaccine hub in Africa. This momentous occasion marks a turning point in the country’s commitment to public health and medical advancements.
The newly commissioned ultra-modern office complex is a testament to Ghana’s determination to bolster its vaccine research and production capabilities. The facility, equipped with cutting-edge technology and infrastructure, will serve as the nerve center for the NVI’s operations, including research and development, vaccine production, and distribution.
During the commissioning ceremony, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of the NVI and its pivotal role in securing Ghana’s self-sufficiency in vaccine production. He underscored the urgent need for Africa to strengthen its capacity to develop and manufacture vaccines locally, given the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The President highlighted that Ghana’s strategic location and political stability make it an ideal candidate to become the vaccine hub of the African continent.
To ensure the smooth functioning of the NVI and to guide its strategic direction, President Akufo-Addo also inaugurated a 13-member governing board comprised of eminent personalities from various fields. The board members bring diverse expertise and experience, including healthcare, research, academia, and industry. This accomplished group will work in close collaboration with the NVI’s management team to drive forward the institute’s mission and vision.
In his address, the President expressed his confidence in the appointed governing board, lauding their caliber and expertise. He urged them to work tirelessly towards making Ghana the go-to destination for vaccine research, development, and production in Africa.
