The police have launched an investigation into the vandalism of the Big Six statue at the Airport Roundabout in Accra.
Reports confirm that the statue has been entirely destroyed, and the suspect, Newwel Gavu, is also accused of damaging several signposts in the area.
The Ghana Police Service stated,
“Suspect Newwel Gavu has been arrested for damaging a monument and signposts at the Airport Roundabout in Accra. He is now in custody and will go through the legal process.”The motive for the vandalism remains unclear. Gavu is currently in police custody and will face legal proceedings.
The incident took place on Saturday, August 31, and witnesses quickly reported the destruction to the authorities.
