The Ghana Police Service has implemented traffic guidelines and road diversions to ensure public safety and prevent clashes during the final rallies of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Thursday, December 5.
According to a press statement, the NPP will hold its rally at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon, while the NDC will gather at Zurak Park in Madina.
Traffic Diversions
During a press briefing on Wednesday, December 4, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of the Police Public Affairs Directorate, outlined the following traffic arrangements:
For NPP Supporters:
-Police will redirect supporters traveling from Adenta at Ritz Junction to turn left through Aviation and UPSA before proceeding to Okponglo to reach Legon.
– Supporters coming from Dome will follow the Haatso Junction route through GIMPA to reach the University of Ghana.
For NDC Supporters:
– Supporters from the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange will turn right at Shiashie, continue toward UPSA, and then turn left to join the Madina main road.
– Those arriving from Dome will turn left at KFC Junction on Haatso Road, proceed toward Wisconsin University, and head to Zongo Junction.
Traffic Controls and Safety Measures
The police will block the road in front of the NDC rally venue in Madina to manage traffic effectively. Officers will also be stationed along key routes to assist road users and ensure smooth movement for vehicles and pedestrians.
Call for Discipline
The police have urged both parties to ensure their supporters maintain discipline and avoid actions that could lead to disruptions. They emphasised the need for cooperation with law enforcement to guarantee a peaceful and orderly conclusion to campaign activities.
