Pastor Mensa Otabil Warns Actions Of Some Clergymen

Written by Sarah Boye

The General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil has voiced his concern that the actions of some clergymen have led the public to view prophets as “conmen.”

He attributes the diminishing respect for this sacred title to the lack of a regulatory body overseeing pastors and religious leaders.

“How can we take the esteemed title held by great figures like Isaiah and Jeremiah and reduce it to something that suggests deceit?” he asks. “Without a regulatory body, anyone can claim a title and flaunt it.”

He highlights that the behaviour of certain pastors undermines the trust traditionally associated with titles like prophet and bishop.

“As a charismatic church, we witness immense power, but I also see significant risks and self-destruction. The public’s confidence in us as men of God is waning. Nowadays, calling yourself a prophet often implies being a conman,” he explains.

While preaching to his congregation on Sunday, October 6, Mensa Otabil emphasized that people have “cheapened and commoditized” the sacred title of “prophet.”
