Parliament has approved the National Service Authority Bill 2024, paving the way for the creation of the mobilization and deployment of qualified individuals to perform national service in critical sectors.
The initiative aims to significantly contribute to national development while enhancing the employability of youth.
Additionally, the bill transforms the authority into a corporate entity with the legal mandate to formulate and execute policies and programs for national service.
In a media briefing on Tuesday, July 9, Executive Director of the National Service Scheme, Osei Assibey Antwi, shared his enthusiasm for the bill’s passage, emphasizing its potential benefits.
“If you have a vibrant youth with a future, a youth that knows their direction and has guiding policies, especially now as the management and board have shifted to a new direction called deployment for employment, This deployment for employment can only be strengthened with this new support,”
Mr. Assibey Antwi stated. He further noted that the bill’s passage will allow the authority to generate funds internally, thereby complementing the government’s efforts to create employment opportunities for youth.
“Parliament has now granted us autonomy, empowering us in ways that will enhance entrepreneurship,” Mr. Assibey Antwi concluded.
