Organized Labour will strike nationwide today to protest the Social Security and National Insurance Trust’s (SSNIT) effort to sell its 60 percent stake in four hotels despite the termination of the sale.
National Secretary of UTAG, Dr Eliasu Mumuni, expressed his disappointment in an interview, accusing SSNIT of ignoring warnings and breaking the trust of the labour group.
“When Organized Labour issued an ultimatum, the NPRA intervened and paused the transaction. However, the NPRA then approved the sale.
Now, with the strike scheduled for Monday, SSNIT announces the termination of the transaction. However, due to this breach of trust, we believe we must remain vigilant,” Dr. Mumuni stated.
SSNIT called off the sale of the Rock City Hotel last Friday after Organised Labour threatened to strike.
