Written by Sarah Boye

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the MP for North Tongu and Chairman of the Assurances Committee, has strongly opposed the proposal by the Electoral Commission (EC) to use the Ghana Card exclusively for voter registration.

Appearing before the Assurances Committee of Parliament,Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Kenneth Attafuah, argued that integrating the Ghana Card into the electoral process is timely, given the substantial number of registered Ghanaians.

“ It is reasonable to use the card for various purposes, such as voting or school enrollment, if quite a number of eligible population are insure. He said.

However, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Chairman of the Assurances Committee, contend that the Ghana Card should not be use for voting until every eligible voter has received one.

That is, voting is a constitutional right and that the card should not be use for electoral purposes until all registration obstacles are rectified.
