Renowned gospel artist Ohemaa Mercy has called on music producer Kwame Mickey to address the ongoing controversy regarding Team Eternity Ghana’s use of the lyrics “Defe Defe” in their latest song.
Speaking on Hitz FM’s Daybreak, Ohemaa Mercy expressed doubts about any potential copyright infringement.
“Team Eternity has done well, so Kwame Mickey should forgive them. There is no copyright issue here.”In our hometown of Kumasi, we say ‘defe defe’ every day. As for ‘mongyae me,’ I have even used it in my songs before.
Some words might seem borrowed, but they are common expressions. ‘Defe Defe’ means ‘but for God’s intervention, I would have been destroyed by the devil.’ These are everyday sayings.”
Ohemaa Mercy further elaborated on her relationship with Team Eternity, stating,
“The team is part of my Royal Fan group, and for this particular song, I’m asking for leniency since God is using it to encourage and bring smiles to people.”
Using the platform, the musician made a passionate appeal to Kwame Mickey not to pursue the issue any further.
