The office of the NPP’s vice presidential candidate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has dismissed claims that an NPP government would return all excavators seized during the crackdown on illegal mining.
The statement clarified that Dr. Prempeh did not promise to distribute excavators for economic growth. The full 20-minute video of his remarks confirms this, and TikTok videos circulating online misrepresent his speech.
The statement further noted that Dr. Prempeh emphasised the need for responsible and sustainable mining practices in line with Ghanaian laws.
This response follows Dr. Prempeh’s remarks on September 8, 2024, during a community engagement in Bogoso, where he outlined plans for regulated small-scale mining with a focus on environmental protection.
