The National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged Dr. Ernest Addison, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, to emerge from hiding and confront them.
On Tuesday, October 3, Sammy Gyamfi claimed the governor of the central bank cannot avoid responsibility on Joy FM’s Top Story.
They would occupy the space, he claimed, “until he [the governor] accords the wonderful people of this country the respect we deserve. At the very least, confront the crowd, accept our petition, pay attention to the concerns we are bringing up, and heed our demand. There is no escape for Governor Addison unless he accomplishes it. He can flee, but he can’t escape responsibility, the speaker said.
He claims that the #OccupyBoG demonstration on Tuesday was the first in a series of demonstrations to be organized in coordination with political parties, civil society organizations, and other organizations to demand responsibility from duty-bearers.
The NDC held a protest on Tuesday in Accra to call for the dismissal of the governor of the central bank and his appointees for mismanaging the institution.
The leadership of the party, including the MPs, were permitted entrance to the central bank to deliver their petition to the governor notwithstanding the demonstrators’ exclusion due to the security zone designation.
However, Mr. Gyamfi pointed out that the group’s justification is “an insult to the sensibilities of the good people of this country who have been thrust into untold hardships by the actions of the Governor,” and that it is “an excuse given to the group.”
He claims that the NDC has investigated the representative’s justification and found that no meeting was arranged on that day.
Are they suggesting that the meeting they were having never ended since we spent hours on the Bank of Ghana’s property? He queried.
