Nollywood Actor, Olu Jacobs Dies At 82

Veteran Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs privately know. as Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs has died at the age of 82 after a long struggle of health problems.

The news, confirmed by Nigerian media on Sunday, June 30, 2024, has led to an outpouring of condolences from friends, colleagues, and fans on social media.

In recent years, his health had declined due to dementia, a condition affecting memory, cognition, and behavior.

During this challenging period, his wife, actress Joke Silva, admirably served as his primary caregiver, openly sharing the difficulties they faced.

Despite his health struggles, Jacobs remained a beloved figure in the Nigerian film industry, known for his exceptional talent, commitment, and significant contributions to Nollywood.

His passing is deeply mourned by fans, colleagues, and his family.

Mr Jacobs began his acting career in England, where he trained at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and appeared in various British television productions during the 1970s.

Upon returning to Nigeria, he became a prominent figure in Nollywood, starring in over 120 films and earning numerous accolades, including the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2007.

Olu Jacobs was celebrated as a distinguished actor and film executive, renowned as one of Africa’s finest actors of his generation.
