Nigerian Singer, Speed Darlington Faces Defamation Charges

Written by Sarah Boye

Nigerian singer Akpi, also known as Speed Darlington, is facing defamation charges filed by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

According to reports, his legal troubles began in October 2024 when authorities arrested him for allegedly cyberstalking Burna Boy.

Further, Darlington then released a diss track, “Baby Oil,” accusing Burna Boy of intimidation and manipulation.

After his initial arrest, Darlington received bail following an emotional public plea from his mother. However, his social media activity reignited tensions, resulting in his re-arrest in November 2024 during a performance in Owerri, Imo State.

Darlington’s lawyer, Stanlie Eke, confirmed that the singer has been formally charged and is awaiting trial. Eke expressed concern about the timing of the case, warning that Darlington could spend Christmas in jail if the court does not grant bail soon due to its holiday closure.
