Nigeria Appoints Eric Chelle As New Super Eagles Coach

Written by Sarah Boye

Nigeria has appointed former Mali coach Eric Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles, as the team faces significant challenges in their bid to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Chelle, a former player with five caps for Mali, spent his entire playing career in France. His immediate task will be to turn around Nigeria’s faltering World Cup qualification campaign. The Super Eagles remain winless after four matches and are currently second from the bottom in their six-team group.

Nigeria’s next World Cup qualifiers will see them face surprise Group C leaders Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March.

In addition, the three-time African champions will compete in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco this December, after finishing as runners-up to Ivory Coast in the previous edition.
