The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has unveiled plans to expand its free dialysis programme to boost access to life-saving treatment for kidney patients across Ghana.
Announcing the initiative at a stakeholder meeting, NHIA Chief Executive Officer Dr Victor Bampoe said the authority will supply additional dialysis machines and critical medical consumables to health facilities nationwide, in line with the government’s broader goal of strengthening healthcare delivery and enrolling more renal patients under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Further, Dr Bampoe noted that the previous government launched the free dialysis programme at 20 centres, and the NHIA now intends to scale it up and secure its financial sustainability.
“This move will ease the financial burden on patients and families, many of whom currently struggle to afford dialysis care.”
