NHIA Allocates Funds For Free Dialysis Sessions For Kidney Patients

Written by Sarah Boye

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has allocated GH¢ 587,236 to six hospitals to offer free dialysis sessions for kidney patients under 18 and over 60 years old.

In a statement on Sunday, June 30, the NHIA confirmed the fund release, indicating that hospitals will manage the funds and reimburse patients who paid out-of-pocket in June.

This disbursement marks the first month of the government’s aid for kidney patients, with the NHIA pledging ongoing dedication to providing quality healthcare access for all.

Furthermore, the NHIA stated that the funds would help maintain healthcare services and support the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The recipient hospitals for this support include Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Efia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, Ho Teaching Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

This initiative follows the government’s decision to cover dialysis costs for these age groups, ensuring essential treatment is accessible to vulnerable patients.
