The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has firmly stated that the party will not sign any peace declarations ahead of the 2024 elections.
During an interview with Joy News, Mr Nketia criticised past peace declarations, arguing that they failed to prevent violence.
He insisted that symbolic gestures like signing agreements do little to stop conflict if they follow rising tensions. Instead, he urged for proactive steps to address potential issues before they escalate into violence.
Mr Nketia stressed that declarations mean nothing without concrete action. He accused previous agreements of being ignored, which allowed problems to persist.
Further, he also highlighted the futility of signing peace declarations after violence has already erupted. For over a year, he has pushed for removing the factors that lead to violent elections.
He believes that those who later call for peace agreements should speak out early to prevent conflicts before they arise.
