Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has cautioned former President John Mahama against making baseless criticisms of respected chiefs, imams, and pastors.
Speaking during a campaign tour in Ofoase, Juaben constituency, Prempeh, known as ‘NAPO’, argued that Mahama’s recent remarks about religious and traditional leaders stem from frustration over the NDC’s slim chances of winning the upcoming elections.
“Mahama is venting his anger at innocent people because he knows the NDC’s prospects are fading. Chiefs, clergy, and imams have done nothing to provoke him, yet he unfairly targets them,” Prempeh said.
Further, Napo urged the public to reject Mahama and the NDC in the December 7 elections, citing the former president’s confrontational attitude as evidence of his disrespect for these leaders. In contrast, he emphasized his own approach of seeking blessings and support from chiefs, imams, and pastors, which he believes aligns with the best interests of the NPP and the country.
This comes as Mahama faces increasing public backlash for remarks seen as unjust attacks on religious and traditional figures, with Prempeh accusing him of labeling them as hypocrites simply for offering prayers and support.
