NAM1 Sues Bridget Otoo GHC1,000,000 for defamation

Written by Louis

The embattled CEO of the now-defunct Menzgold company, Nana Appiah Mensah, has filed a defamation lawsuit against journalist Bridget Otoo and is requesting GHC1,000,000 in damages.

In recent years, Bridget has consistently exposed Nana Appiah Mensah, also referred to as NAM1, for his fraudulent activities scamming Ghanaians via his Menzgold enterprise.

In a writ of summons that has been extensively circulated on social media, the plaintiff, NAM1, claims that at 7:26 a.m. on October 21, 2023, the defendant made the following defamatory remarks on her X handle, all while his criminal case was still ongoing before the court for hearing, Bridget Otoo.

“In which country will a fraudster like @Nam-the-patriot be allowed to do this? This is a form of bribe for the Police who are to arrest him to distribute money on his behalf! Smh F NAM1 is a scammer #Jail him #Occupy Julorbi House”.

In the words of the Plaintiff (NAM1), the defendant’s (Bridget Otoo) comment is interpreted to imply that the Plaintiff (NAM1) is a criminal, a fraudster, a dishonest person, and a person who deceives the public in order to obtain financial gain.

The Plaintiff (NAM1) states that it is not in the words of the Defendant (Bridget Otoo) to refer to the Plaintiff as a fraudster and scammer; rather, the question of whether the Plaintiff is a fraudster and scammer is one that is currently pending before a court of competent jurisdiction.

The Plaintiff (NAM1) claims that being perceived by right-thinking people and his business partners around the world as a fraudster and scammer has severely harmed his reputation and character.

Therefore, the Plaintiff is requesting a million Ghana Cedis (GHC1,000,000) in damages for defamation, as well as a perpetual injunction prohibiting the Defendant from publishing any more defamatory statements about her on the same platform, an order directing the Defendant to retract and offer an unconditional apology to the Plaintiff, and an order to remove any defamatory statements made about her on her social media accounts.
