The Narcotics Control Commission, NACOC, in partnership with the UK National Crime Agency, foiled a large drug trafficking plot at Accra’s Kotoka International Airport.
Acting on intelligence, authorities seized 166.88 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine from the luggage of two British tourists travelling together on Monday, June 10, 2024.
According to a NACOC statement, the recovered narcotics are believed to be worth $6million on the street.
The inmates, Hall Shamin Ethline and Graham Omar Adel, were about to board a British Airways flight heading for Gatwick when their luggage sparked suspicion.
Upon additional inspection, all six of their suitcases—three each—were discovered to contain a total of 72 slabs of probable cocaine.
The breakdown suggests that Hall Shamin Ethline’s luggage contained approximately 83.44 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine, along with personal belongings.
Similarly, Graham Omar Adel’s suitcase contained around 83.44 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine, in addition to his personal stuff.
Both individuals have been arrested and are actively cooperating with investigators.
This action demonstrates NACOC’s attentiveness and commitment to combating drug trafficking at airports, regardless of country, ensuring traveller safety, and protecting the integrity of aircraft terminals.
