Mzbel Reveals Financial Loss From Alcohol Endorsement Deal

Written by Sarah Boye

Ghanaian hiplife musician Mzbel has voiced her criticism of the Food and Drugs Authority’s directive banning celebrities from advertising alcohol.

In an interview on Onua FM, Mzbel shared that she lost a substantial sum of money from her deal with Joy Dadi eight years ago, just as she was about to promote the alcoholic brand.

She recounted that although she received a partial payment of Gh₵25,000, the agreement was abruptly cancelled when the company became aware of the FDA ban.

“They gave me Gh₵25,000 a long time ago, about seven to eight years. It was a partial payment; they had covered my photoshoots and other expenses, and we were preparing for a billboard before they discovered the FDA ban, so we couldn’t proceed. The pictures and all our efforts went to waste. They couldn’t take back the money because they had already paid me,” she noted

She highlighted that the remaining balance was significant enough to start a business.
