President-elect John Dramani Mahama credits divine intervention for his victory in the 2024 presidential election.
During a visit from the leadership of the Assemblies of God Church, led by Reverend Stephen Wengam, Mahama expressed amazement at the scale of his win and called for continued prayers to help him address the country’s economic challenges.
“I know the church supported me with prayers every step of the way,” Mahama said. “During the election period, I was aware of the prayer networks actively praying for our success. This cannot be by our might.”
Further, he described the overwhelming nature of his victory as unprecedented, stating, “I was confident we would win, but the extent of this victory can only be God’s work. It is one of the greatest endorsements any president has received in Ghana’s history.”
Moreover, Mahama stressed the need for even more prayers, noting that Ghanaians’ expectations are higher than ever amid the ongoing economic crisis. “Restoring the economy will require immense effort, and this is the time we need prayers the most,” he added.
Mahama secured 56.55% of the valid votes, defeating his main opponent, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who received 41.61%. His victory also marked a major milestone for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which won a parliamentary majority with over 170 seats.
