Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif has clarified that he had no role in appointing Otto Addo as head coach of the Ghana Black Stars.

Addressing the Parliamentary Select Committee, Ussif stated that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) independently decided to hire Addo.

“I did not participate in the selection of Otto Addo as Black Stars coach, the GFA’s technical directorate manages all national team appointments, and the Ministry plays no role.”

Further, he noted that while the GFA could have consulted him, they made the decision on their own.

“If it were up to me, we would allow our coaches more time… Once they fully understand our philosophy and players, the results will follow,” Ussif added.

Otto Addo, who coached Ghana in the 2022 World Cup, replaced Chris Hughton after the team’s early exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
