MUSIGA Urges Government to Fast-Track Construction of Amphitheatres

Written by admin

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has recently appealed to the government to fast-track the construction of amphitheatres across the country. MUSIGA, an organization that represents the interests of musicians and promotes the music industry, believes that the development of these venues will greatly contribute to the growth and vibrancy of the local music scene.

Amphitheatres, with their open-air settings and tiered seating, provide a unique and captivating experience for both artists and audiences. These purpose-built spaces offer a wide range of possibilities, from hosting live music performances and cultural events to theatrical productions and community gatherings. Recognizing the immense potential of amphitheatres, MUSIGA sees them as crucial infrastructure for nurturing talent, fostering creativity, and boosting the economy.

In a statement issued by the MUSIGA acting President Bessa Simons on World Music Day, mentions that , the union emphasized that the construction of amphitheatres would serve as a catalyst for the entertainment industry’s growth. It would create additional performance opportunities for musicians, enabling them to showcase their talent to larger audiences in a dedicated and professional environment. Moreover, it would attract both domestic and international tourists, positioning Ghana as a cultural hub and promoting its rich musical heritage.

“As we celebrate World Music Day after, also known as Fête de la Musique, which is an annual celebration that promotes the power of music and its universal language let’s be minded about what the day stands for,” the statement further highlights.

According to Bessa Simons, the World Music Day encourages musicians of all genres to perform in public spaces, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere for people to enjoy music worldwide.

“It is a day that musicians and music lovers from around the world come together to perform and enjoy various genres of music on this special day,” he writes.

He adds that as Ghana gains international appeal through the ‘Beyond the Return’ agenda, avenues for musicians and performers to showcase their talents will be a huge boost for the agenda.

The benefits of constructing amphitheatres extend beyond the music industry. The venues can function as communal gathering spaces, encouraging social cohesion and fostering cultural exchange. They can also boost local economies by attracting visitors, generating employment opportunities, and driving tourism-related activities. Therefore, MUSIGA’s appeal is not only for the betterment of musicians but also for the broader societal and economic advancement of Ghana.

MUSIGA’s call for the government to fast-track the construction of amphitheatres highlights the union’s dedication to nurturing Ghana’s vibrant music scene. By providing purpose-built spaces for performances and cultural events, these venues have the potential to propel the country’s music industry to new heights. As the government considers this plea, it is hoped that steps will be taken to prioritize the development of amphitheatres, thereby creating a thriving environment for musicians, promoting cultural heritage, and bolstering the economy.
