Written by Sarah Boye

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) will host a national capacity-building workshop from September 5 to 8, 2024, at the Erata Hotel in Accra.

Speaking at the event, MUSIGA President Bessa Simons highlighted the workshop as a key component of the Union’s continuous efforts to advance the professional development of its members and champion the interests of musicians both in Ghana and across Africa.

Thomas Dayan, Deputy General Secretary of the International Federation of Musicians (FIM), and Jonas Franzen from the Swedish Musicians Federation—two renowned experts in musician union organizations—will facilitate the workshop themed “Developing African Musician Unions.”

They will lead participants through a series of interactive sessions, discussions, and strategic planning activities aimed at strengthening the effectiveness and impact of musician unions across the continent.

In addition, key topics on the agenda include integrating gender equality within unions and improving financial management—both critical for the growth and sustainability of these organizations.

Moreover, the workshop will offer a platform for participants to exchange insights, learn from best practices, and explore new strategies to address the challenges facing African musician unions today.

Thus to bring together members of MUSIGA’s National Executive Council, who will focus on enhancing the Union’s overall capabilities.
