The minority in Parliament has criticised the Mahama administration for omitting the 24-hour economy policy from the 2025 budget, which was introduce in Parliament on Friday, March 28.
During the session, the caucus argued that neither the President nor the Finance Minister addressed the initiative in the State of the Nation Address or the government’s policy document.
Adding to the criticism, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin questioned the feasibility of the 24-hour economy policy. He recalled that President Mahama had assured the nation that the finance minister would outline the widely discussed initiative in the budget.
However, he noted that Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson postponed the policy’s implementation, saying it would take effect later.
“This means the 24-hour economy policy is ‘Yamutu’ for the 2025 financial year,” Afenyo-Markin implying the initiative had been ditch.
